Safety
If not used correctly, candles can be a serious fire hazard. The following tips are to help minimize your risk when burning candles in your home.
- burn candles on a stable, heat resistant surface and away from things that can catch fire - curtains, decorations, bedding etc.
- keep candles out of reach of children or pets - they can be burned or cut themselves if they break the vessel
- keep wooden wick trimmed before each use - before each lighting be sure to gently break off and dispose of the charred ends of the wooden wick
- discontinue burning your candle when 1/4 an inch of wax remains and/or the wick detaches and moves off center. Wick clips are designed to keep the flame above the bottom of the vessel to prevent it from breaking due to the high heat. It is completely normal to have wax left over in the bottom of your vessel. Sometimes the wick can dislodge from the bottom of the vessel and move around. If it moves to the side of the glass, it could cause it to crack or break. Discontinue burning your candle if this occurs. You can scoop the remaining wax out and use it in your wax melter!
